Step 1: Introduction and Contact

New members are usually introduced by a current member, who informs the Secretary in advance.

If you don't know anyone yet, use our contact page to message the Secretary and introduce yourself.

Step 2: Initial Information and Meeting

The Secretary (currently Nick Richmond) will provide you with basic details and an application form.

You'll meet with a member of the Committee before a circle meeting for an informal chat.

Step 3: Attend Meetings

You'll be invited to attend up to 4 meetings to experience what we do, meet members and learn and develop your magic interest further before starting your 6 month 'apprenticeship' and then joining as a full member.

We have a mix of hobbyist magicians right through to professional magicians who can all help you grow your interest and skills.

Step 4: Audition and Membership Decision

When you're ready or at the end of the 'apprenticeship', you can then perform an audition for the current members. The audition should be roughly 8 - 12 minutes long.

Don't worry; enthusiasm matters more than perfection and everyone has to start somewhere.

The Darlington Magic Circle welcomes anyone with an interest and enthusiasm for magic. Most of our members are hobbyists but we do have some professional performers, but we also have some interest in magical history, collecting magic memorabilia or simply enjoying the art. We make no distinction between seasoned professionals and absolute beginners. If you are genuinely interested in magic, are aged 16 years or above, will fit in with the group and won’t reveal any magic secrets you may learn to non-magic folk, you should apply.

The only exception to the 16-year age limit is if their parent or guardian is also a member.

New members are usually brought along, or invited to their first meeting, by a current member who will let the Secretary know in advance.

The current joining fee is £25 plus £40 annual membership.

Membership includes:

  • Membership of The Darlington Magic Circle including voting rights.
  • Membership of the The DSRM (Rolling Mills) Club where we hold our meetings (over 18’s).
  • Access to all Meetings, Lectures and Events.
